I recently wrote an article about the lack of live hockey in the last year, thanks to 'rona, and the desire to see it return. That particular article was promoting an upcoming charity hockey game to benefit It Takes a Village. This article is about more opportunities to see some live hockey, this time at the collegiate level.

The University of Southern Indiana is putting together a new hockey team. At the risk of getting technical, it will officially be an ACHA D3 Club Hockey team. What does that mean, exactly? I don't know. I would imagine that acronym stands for something like American Collegiate Hockey Association. That's a total guess. Somebody want to fact-check me and see if I'm right? Actually, I couldn't wait for you - I looked it up myself, and I'm absolutely correct. Booyah!

I'm gonna assume the D3 means Division 3, although the other sports at USI are Division 2. I do know what a club team is, at least I know what this definition from cappex.com tells me..."Club sports are a step up from intramurals. Club teams are more competitive, play against other schools, and require tryouts to join. Schools tend to sponsor club teams."

Organizers just recently created a USI Eagles Hockey Facebook page announcing the creation of the team. So what's next for Eagles Hockey? Well, I guess everything, since they're starting from scratch. They have the desire and the community support, and that's a great start, but there are plenty of other things they need. According to the only post on their brand new FB page...

We plan to have our first season during the 2021-2022 school year.  Please share this page and spread the word as we are looking for players, coaches, and students for our executive board, off-ice crew, and to help prepare and set the team up for its first season!!

Here's your chance to be a part of something special and exciting - a chance to say you helped build this thing from the ground up. So, can you help? If you can, or if you're interested, send an email to usiiceeagleshockey@gmail.com to the ball (puck) rolling.
