The bats were in full swing (pun totally intended) for the Evansville Otters last night as they set a season-high in home runs during the first of three games in Sauget, Illinois against the West Division leading Gateway Grizzlies.

First baseman Nik Balog, left-fielder Jeremy Nowak, and All-star infielder Josh Allen all went yard on Grizzlies pitcher, Aaron Newcomb in the second inning alone, before outfielder Chris Sweeney rubbed salt in the wound with a three run blast in the fourth inning.

Otter's right-hander, Preston Olson was also on point last night, pitching six scoreless innings before reliever Evan Mott stepped in to finish the game. Despite a three earned run start in the seventh, Mott also pitched well with a scoreless eighth and ninth to finish the game.

The win, coupled with a Washington loss against Normal last night, puts the Otters two games back in the East Division as they prepare for their second game against the Grizzlies Friday night where left-hander Conor Kerins will make his pro debut for Evansville.

The Otters return home to Bosse Field Sunday evening to begin a three-game series over two days against the East Division leading Wild Things. The first pitch on Sunday is scheduled for 5:05pm.
